Succesive US Presidents have contributions towards trying to find a peaceful solution.

It's also alleged that for many years, the IRA received funds from Irish Americans. I don't know what evidence there is for that apart from anecdotal - maybe Pnb may have heard about that?

A great deal of the Union's armies were populated by Irish immigrants. Many of whom were forced, culminating in the NYC riot during the Civil War.

When Ireland finally got independance the United States was the first to recognize it as an independant state (if you ever go to dublin you'll notice the US embassasy has the nicest spot in the town - right between St. Stephen's Green and Trinity College).

Then there's the whole Joe Kennedy thing. American with very strong Irish (among many other illegal) roots.

There's also the IRA and terrorism problems (The Troubles) that mostly has been funded by American sources. It's been a goal of many US presidents to end it because it would give them a nice chunk of political capital.

There's a few there in short, but there's a multitude of Irish-American political influences over the years. Not so much as say England or even France, but it's there.
