I discovered Gibran a few months back. The Prophet is very profound.

i mean even the first verse of the first chapter doesn't seem to make any sense.

Jesus asked, "Why do you wash the outside of the cup? Do you not realize that he who made the inside is the same one who made the outside?"

WTF is that supposed to mean? That doesn't make any sense. When you wash a cup you wash both the inside and the outside because you come into contact with the inside and the outside and both sides might be dirty. who manufactured the cup and how they did it has no bearing on when you're washing it after it gets dirty.

to me it reads like a hackish version of the Prophet (Gibran), but i guess that has more to do with the translation than the source material. If it looked like King James it would feel a lot more authentic.

Having read some of his other work though, I find it hard to believe he actually wrote it though.

it's profound yet simplistic, and the simplicity just makes it ring more true

Not sure about the Crime and punishment section, but the sections on freedom and giving ring very true.
