My View Sonic 19" and 21" are both at 60hz, one running 1024 x 768 and the other one (21") is at some crazy resolution and I yet have to see a "flicker".\

I am EXTREMELY sensitive to monitor flicker and general visual issues with monitors/video cards. I have never owned or played a game on a flat panel LCD. What are the pros/cons for purchasing like a 19" LCD? Will I be able to run a game in 1600x1200 or higher without problems?

I think my eyes are already fatigued from having contacts with astigmatism...so monitor problems are just icing on the cake.

CRTs have a beam that shoots the light onto the screen, the refesh rate is how fast this beam moves (in basic terms). On LCDs, the pixels are individual and basically turn on and off, or from one color to another (again, very basic terms for understanding).

what you're looking for in flat panels is response times, not refresh rate. anything under 16ms should be fine. if you're really sensitive, you may want to find a 12ms or 8ms (black to white, not grey to grey) monitor

If that is the case, I will probably upgrade after that. Sucks to have a high end system and still have to game in 1024x768 because my monitor hurts my eyes any higher.
